The internet was aghast in August 2013 when it was confirmed that Ben Affleck would be suiting up as the Dark Knight for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the backlash largely stemming from the fact that he was, y'know... Ben Affleck.

While Dawn of Justice and Justice League weren't exactly critical darlings, an argument can be made that Affleck had the potential to be an all-time great Batman who just happened to be let down by the quality of the movies he was starring in. However, the fans seemed to be back on his side when it was announced that he was set to write and direct the Caped Crusader's next solo outing, given his career reinvention as a critically-acclaimed filmmaker.

After spending years attempting to crack the story to no avail, Affleck eventually ended up departing both The Batman and the DCEU altogether. Planet of the Apes' Matt Reeves was swiftly drafted in, and began reworking the project from the ground up, with Robert Pattinson eventually cast as the man under the cape and cowl.

Affleck played Batman on the big screen the same number of times as Christian Bale, but was never given the chance to even scratch the surface of what made Bruce Wayne and his costumed alter-ego tick before he ended up jumping ship.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
