10 Bizarre Horror Movie Choices (& Why They Happened)
9. "He's Killing Me!" - Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
For better or worse, who can possibly forget Rob Dier's (Erich Anderson) death in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter?
Rob is cornered in a basement and sliced to ribbons by Jason Voorhees (Ted White), but while he's being killed, Rob repeatedly screams, "He's killing me!" as Trish Jarvis (Kimberly Beck) looks on in horror.
The scene is a wildly polarising one among the Friday the 13th fandom, some finding it unintentionally hilarious for a man to basically narrate his own demise, even while others consider it uniquely disturbing. It's certainly odd from a creative perspective either way, and yet, in the book Crystal Lake Memories, director Joseph Zito revealed that this scene was inspired by an actual murder he read about in a New York City newspaper.
In this incident, a man shouted, "Please stop hurting me, please stop killing me!" to their assailant while being stabbed to death, and it left enough of an impact upon Zito that it formed the basis of Rob's unforgettable end. And so, for anyone who was quick to dismiss it as totally implausible for Rob to offer play-by-play of his own death, it's more true-to-life than you might think.
