4. The Reversed Waterfall - Anaconda

Anaconda is a campy slice of schlock that doesn't really beg closer examination, though some viewers have nevertheless noticed the deeply strange moment in the third act where, as protagonist Terri (Jennifer Lopez) is tending to a wounded Dr. Cale (Eric Stoltz), an establishing shot shows their boat sailing past a waterfall.

But wait a minute, for some reason, the waterfall is flowing backward, with the water travelling upwards out of the river. But... why?

This one's weird to look at but actually pretty easy to explain. The crew were either unable or forgot to shoot a shot of the boat travelling in this direction past the waterfall, and so during post-production a shot of it travelling the other way was simply reversed.

Evidently the filmmakers assumed that few - if anyone - would notice the physics-defying waterfall, but the Internet being the Internet, they certainly did.

While isolating the waterfall in the shot and reversing the flow would be a relatively trivial VFX task in modern Hollywood, back in 1997 they might've considered it more hassle than it was worth.
