Towards the end of the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow manages to fire off a bullet into Captain Hector Barbossa's heart just as Will Turner breaks the immortality curse.

It's a cool moment, with Jack brilliantly firing Barbossa's blood onto the gold just before it was dropped back into the chest. However, when you really think about the events that lead up to Barbossa's demise, it soon becomes clear that this pirate probably shouldn't have been the only one to perish here.

Sparrow himself had also been wounded by a sword to the torso just a few minutes before Barbossa had a bullet pumped into him pre-curse lift. So, why didn't Jack also drop dead or at the very least suffer a bit of pain from that stabbing in the moments that follow the treasure being returned?

Perhaps stepping back into the moonlight repairs any wounds suffered during a duel, though that's never really made clear in the 2003 flick.

In short, the Black Pearl needed a captain. So, most folks just accepted this pirate legend somehow finding a way to live to fight another day... and drink another bottle of rum.
