10 Blockbuster Leading Men So Boring They Almost Put Us To Sleep

4. Ben Affleck

Boring Blockbusters: Armageddon (1998), Pearl Harbor (2001), The Sum of All Fears (2002), Daredevil (2003), Paycheck (2003) Ben Affleck has had one of the most interesting movie careers in recent memory. An Academy Award-winning writer at 25, he was one of the biggest movie stars in the world at the turn of the 21st Century before a string of critical and commercial flops saw his star drastically fade. In the last few years, he has reinvented himself as a critically-acclaimed filmmaker, culminating in a Best Picture win for his third movie Argo at the Academy Awards. Oh, and he's Batman. Armageddon features all of the style over substance and paper-thin characterisation synonymous with a Michael Bay movie, and Affleck struggles to bring any depth or personality to his bland and overly-sentimental character. Re-teaming with the same director for epic war romance Pearl Harbor, the actor suffers much of the same problems as he struggles with the cliche-ridden script loaded with awful dialogue. Inheriting the mantle of Jack Ryan for franchise reboot The Sum of All Fears, Affleck delivered the weakest and most poorly-realized incarnation of the character yet in a mildly entertaining if overly predictable thriller. In Daredevil, the actor suits the role of Matt Murdock much better than the titular superhero but fails to convince in the melodramatic moments and is easily overshadowed by Colin Farrell's scene-stealing Bullseye. Affleck's last big-budget leading role for over a decade also served as John Woo's final Hollywood effort as the director and star both failed to elevate Paycheck above dull mediocrity. Here's hoping his take on the Caped Crusader is more interesting than his previous blockbuster starring roles...

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
