10 Blockbusters From 2016 That Should Win Oscars (But Won't)

5. Kubo & The Two Strings (Best Animated Feature)

Kubo And The Two Strings Oscar
Laika

Why It Should Win: No animated movie in 2016 has been remotely as imaginative and unique as Laika's fourth film to date, a dark fairy tale with mind-blowing stop-motion animation and a terrific array of performances.

Why It Won't: The most damning thing working against Kubo is that, of the fifteen Best Animated Feature Oscars to be awarded to date, only a single one has been given to a stop-motion film (Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2006).

Hammering another nail in the coffin is its bombing at the box office, meaning that even if it manages to sneak a passion nomination from voters, it'll almost certainly lose out to Zootopia, Finding Dory or Moana.
