10 Blockbusters From 2016 That Should Win Oscars (But Won't)

4. The Jungle Book (Best Adapted Screenplay)

Kubo And The Two Strings Oscar
Disney

Why It Should Win: Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book was a damn sight better than most were expecting, driven by gorgeous visuals, toe-tapping tunes, excellent performances, and a fantastic script from Justin Marks.

Yes, there are many other options to choose from, but how many are imbued with as much heart and passion for the source material as this? Plus, it's that rare remake that actually improves upon the original. Fancy that.

Why It Won't: This will almost certainly go, as it usually does, to a more outwardly Oscar-baiting movie like Denzel Washington's Fences, Silence or Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Voters may struggle to see past the movie's incredible technical work to appreciate that it's also nimbly written.
