10 Blockbusters From 2017 That Should Win Oscars (But Won't)

9. Baby Driver (Best Film Editing & Best Sound Mixing)

Baby Driver
TriStar Pictures

Why It Should Win: Baby Driver is another feat of technical wizardry from Edgar Wright, its success hinging largely on the silky smooth editing of the numerous car chases and action sequences, and the marvelous sound mixing, which perfectly integrates the various musical numbers into the chaotic action.

Why It Won't: The Best Film Editing nomination would really be the win here, especially as none of Wright's movies have received editing nominations before despite all being meticulously assembled, but with other blockbusters like Dunkirk and Star Wars: The Force Awakens likely to score editing nods alongside artier offerings, there probably won't be any room for Baby Driver.

Best Sound Mixing is much more likely, but even so, it's another area where more bombastic tentpole films, specifically superhero movies, are likely to steal away its thunder.
