10 Blockbusters From 2017 That Should Win Oscars (But Won't)
8. Wonder Woman (Best Production Design & Best Costume Design)
Why It Should Win: Easily one of Wonder Woman's most remarkable aspects is its scintillating production design, both in terms of making the land of Themyscira feel palpably otherworldly, and recreating World War I-era London with pin-sharp detail.
And the costume design speaks for itself, from Diana's Wonder Woman costume to the Amazons' own outfits. It all looks splendid and contributes significantly to the film's effectiveness.
Why It Won't: Blockbusters tend to get nominated in both of these categories, but the wins usually go to "classy" period fare rather than, well, superhero movies.
Expect something like Mudbound or Steven Spielberg's The Papers to steal Best Production Design away, while Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, a movie about costume design, is pretty much a lock for Best Costume Design already.
