10 Bold Predictions About The Post-Justice League DCEU
3. Man Of Steel 2 Won't Be Henry Cavill's Last DCEU Outing
It isn't just Ben Affleck being heavily linked with the DCEU exit. Reports that Henry Cavill has just one movie remaining on his Superman contract have sparked rumours that he's on the way out faster than a speeding bullet.
But he's the thing with contracts: they can always be renewed, and there's no reason why Warner Bros won't seek to retain Cavill if Man of Steel 2 is the movie they're hoping it will be. Providing he doesn't grow another moustache.
No doubt the final film on his existing deal with be the Superman sequel, and there's every reason to be positive about this film's prospects, despite the fact the DCEU only began to get Supes right in Justice League's final act.
After two botched attempts at reestablishing the superhero in Hollywood, it looks like Warner's current setup has a firm gasp of what does, and what doesn't work, where Kal-El is concerned. He should be a beacon of hope and optimism, not a brooding, joyless alien, and there were clear signs of him taking on this role in Justice League.
Many of the other key ingredients for a decent Superman film are already in place: Cavill certainly looks the part when he doesn't have bad CGI all over his face to mask a digital shave, and his relationship with Amy Adams's Lois Lane hits the right notes.
This trail-and-error approach should see Man of Steel 2 become the definitive sequel the studio is banking on, especially if the rumours about Matthew Vaughn directing turn out to be true.
