10 Bonkers Theories About 2015’s Movies That Surely Can’t Be True
6. Fox Purposely Made The Movie Sh*t - Fant4stic
The Theory: Although superhero movies of all shapes and sizes are beloved, it's fair to say Marvel have a monopoly on it at the moment. In an attempt to combat that, Fox released Fant4stic in such a shoddy state to weaken their rival's market dominance. Why It's Believable: Fant4stic was terrible. Like, genuinely terrible. The sort of bad that just doesn't happen anymore. It's thus much more believable Fox knew they were making a dud from early on and kept going in that track in some very devious inter-company battle. General audiences may put faith in the Marvel name, but they don't distinguish between films based on Marvel comics and Marvel Studios productions - to many Fant4stic slots into the universe in the same way Ant-Man does, so its failure on all levels only really hurts the MCU. Why It Can't Be True: I mean, this is some proper tin-foil thinking here; to suggest a company sabotaged its own movie to destroy goodwill towards a rival. The truth is a bit more sobering - if Fox hadn't released the movie then they'd have lost the rights to the characters. They probably did realise Josh Trank's film wasn't up to much, but by that point it was just too late to do anything about it.
