10 Bonkers Theories About 2015’s Movies That Surely Can’t Be True

4. Tom Hardy Is Actually The Feral Child - Mad Max: Fury Road

The Theory: Max, the character played by Tom Hardy, isn't the same person as the venguful Road Warrior played by Mel Gibson in the original trilogy. Instead, he's the boomerang-throwing feral child from the first sequel all grown up. Why It's Believable: It's literally the only way for the Mad Max series to have any semblance of continuity without Fury Road just being a random offshoot and ties in nicely to Mr. Rockatansky being a more immortal figure. The feral child, so impressed by this lone figure patrolling the desert, grows into that position himself. That's why things are so much worse in the wasteland, why we see a the gyrocopter pilot's skull, why he has a music box (a key progenitor to the theory) and, biggest of all, why he only says his name is Max at the end and very reluctantly. Why It Can't Be True: It's such a great way make the Mad series make sense and explains Hardy's different take on the character, but the classic movie at the heart of the theory actually disproves it; at the end of The Road Warrior a grown up feral child gives a narration that says he eventually became the head of the oil-loving clan. Better just accept Mad Max canon will never make sense.
