10 Box Office Bombs You Could Spot From A Mile Away

2. 47 Ronin

47 Ronin was first announced in December 2008, and finally saw the light of day a full five years later. At no point during that time was there any positive buzz whatsoever surrounding the project, only tales of costly reshoots and behind-the-scenes issues. It may be harsh to say that a movie is destined to fail from the outset, but that was definitely the case here.

Carl Rinsch, without a single feature film credit to his name, was handed the reins of a $175 million Japanese-set fantasy action blockbuster in a major gamble that backfired massively. Rinsch was eventually kicked out during the editing process and the studio added expensive additional scenes during post-production in a desperate attempt to polish the turd they had on their hands.

Obviously it tanked at the box office and earned just over $150 million globally, not even recouping the eye-watering budget. 47 Ronin is frequently regarded as the biggest box office bomb in history, with reports ranging that the permanently-troubled project lost anywhere between $100-150 million.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
