Budget: 210 million Box office: $1.1 billion After the third installment of Michael Bay's Transformers series was released a few optimistic people hoped that this would be the end of the franchise. After all, most filmmakers like to wrap things up as a trilogy and know when to leave well alone, so perhaps Bay would follow suit. And then they realised how much money these films were making and shook their heads in dread at the announcment of a fourth film. It was hard to imagine the series getting much worse but Transformers: Age Of Extinction succeeded in being even more loud, obnoxious, nonsensical and crude than the previous three movies put together. Weighing in at a staggering 165 minutes, it looked as if Bay understood that he couldn't make the franchise any more banal and empty-headed than it already was so he opted to make it as long as possible just to annoy his detractors. Somehow managing to strip the concept of giant robots fighting of all its potential fun didn't stop hordes of people watching the film and yet another Transformers film will be hitting cinemas in 2016. At least Bay is no longer directing, but as the next film proves that isn't necessarily a good thing...
