10 Box Office Hits From 2014 Which Should Have Bombed

3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Budget: $200 million Box office: $708.9 million If there's one pitfall superhero movies can fall in to it's the inclusion of too many villains - looking back at cinematic culprits in this regard and it doesn't take long until you come across Spider-Man 3 or, far worse, Batman And Robin. Too many villains syndrome is just one of the many problems with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - a poorly written and confusing plot and a heavy-handed use of obvious CGI are two more than stand out like a sore thumb throughout the overly long running time. This is exactly the kind of generic filmmaking that the leaked emails from Sony complain about - sadly, it makes the studio a lot of money so expecting the studio to heed the words of their disgruntled employee isn't going to happen any time soon. At least Marvel Studios appear to be moving in the right direction with their franchises and X-Men is back on track, so fans of exciting comic book adaptations will have an alternative or two come the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
