10 Box Office Hits You Forgot Even Existed

2. The Croods

The Croods seemed all set to launch the latest blockbuster animated franchise when it landed in theaters in March 2013. Co-written and co-directed by How to Train Your Dragon's Chris Sanders, the movie featured a star-studded cast that included Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and a rare Nicolas Cage voice performance.

Cornering the market for family-friendly movies, The Croods went on to earn a massive $587.2m at the box office and seemed poised to join the aforementioned Dragon franchise, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and Shrek as one of Dreamworks Animation's key properties.

Obviously, a sequel was announced shortly after. Then it was cancelled, leaving the future of the prehistoric clan in doubt. While a television show debuted on Netflix in 2015, the big-screen status of The Croods remains up in the air.

Which seems strange, because it wasn't a bad movie by any means, it was actually pretty entertaining. There were plenty of worse animated features released in 2013, but perhaps The Croods was forgotten about entirely in the wake of Frozen's headline-dominating and pop culture-seizing antics.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
