10 Box Office Hits You Forgot Even Existed
3. We're The Millers
Every year, there is always one studio comedy that outperforms even the most optimistic of box office projections and in 2013, We're the Millers was that movie.
It almost seemed like the project was precision-designed to be just that. The director of Dodgeball, writers that had worked on Wedding Crashers and Hot Tub Time Machine and a cast of proven comedians like Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Nick Offerman and Helms seemed like a recipe for success. And it was.
The most surprising thing about it isn't how successful it was, but just how quickly it became irrelevant. Breakout comedies generally capture the cultural zeitgeist for even the briefest of periods but despite spending ten weeks in the domestic top ten, earning $270m worldwide and boasting a breakout performance from Will Poulter, We're the Millers was quickly forgotten about as audiences moved onto the next big-screen comedy that came their way.
