It goes without saying that Hollywood is a weird, wonderful place. They crank out all sorts of ideas; some are fantastic and entertain the Hell out of us, some are awful and end up flopping, and then there are some that never even make it to the screen, rejected on a count of being too daring, too ridiculous, or too stupid. Whether it's a standalone idea for a film, alternate casting picks or simply a difference in opinion over a scene, Hollywood is full of bad ideas that we'd love to have seen actually executed, if only to observe the results in the most morbidly curious of fashions. Unfortunately, given that these 10 ideas never came to fruition, it seems like the big-wigs in Hollywood might have a little more sense than we give them credit for. Shame.
10. Steven Spielberg Cameos In Mortal Kombat

Steven Spielberg, ever the innovator and ever ahead of the curve, was one of the first big names in cinema to take video games seriously, and this extended to his support of the first spate of video game movie adaptations, dreadful though they largely were. Spielberg was reportedly a huge fan of the Mortal Kombat series - I know, right? - and offered to cameo in Paul W.S. Anderson's surprisingly enjoyable B-movie cheese-fest. The scene does remain in the film, but due to scheduling conflicts, Spielberg had to pull out; the scene features Johnny Cage shooting his latest action movie, with the camera pulling back to reveal Spielberg as the director. The director who replaced him still strongly resembles the filmmaker, though seeing the man himself mugging to the camera would have been fantastically funny. It's brilliant, but why is it also awful? We'd never have let Spielberg live it down, especially considering Anderson's terrible reputation these days.
