10 Brilliantly Awful Movie Ideas We Wish They Went Ahead With

8. Watchmen Based On The War On Terror

Watchmen It's amazing that a film as brazenly uncommercial as Watchmen ever got made as faithfully as it did; for all of its special effects and action, it's a period story that deals with superheroes in a postmodern way that audiences may find chilly and bizarre, and what's more, it's absolutely spilling with gratuitous sex and violence. However, things weren't always so easy for Zack Snyder; Warner executives initially tried to convince him to alter the story into one not concerned with the Vietnam War and the Cold War but instead the War on Terror that has defined most of the 21st century so far. Snyder balked, suggesting that it's wouldn't be as interesting to depict the here and now, nor would it be faithful to the notoriously rabid fans of the comic. Sure, it would probably have been terrible and woefully on the nose, but seeing Dr. Manhattan roaming Iraq detonating IEDs for the troops? I'd have paid to see that.
