10 Brilliantly Self Aware Wes Craven Cameos
9. Shocker - Neighbor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDhVeyIgqXcAfter falling out with studio New Line over the ongoing development of the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise and his financial share in it, Shocker was Craven's attempt to kick-start a new franchise. The film, in which future Friday Night Lights and Hancock director Peter Berg plays a foster kid with a weird psychological connection to his executed serial killer real father, was critically panned on release to the extent that a mooted sequel never appeared. It has, however, developed a committed enough fanbase in the long run to make a remake a real possibility.
Part of the movie's long term cult appeal has come from its raft of cameos and supporting roles from recognisable faces. The likes of Craven's Nightmare star Heather Langenkamp, Ted Raimi and erstwhile "most dangerous man in America" Dr Timothy Leary all serve to make the film a cameo spotter's delight.
But it's the entire Craven family that make it interesting. Not only does Wes play the family's creepy neighbor, but his son Jonathan and daughter Jessica also get their brief chance to shine too.
