5. Charlton Heston - Planet Of The Apes (1968)
20th Century FoxPlanet of the Apes is one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made, a deft blending of escapist fun and underlying social commentary that spawned a franchise that's still running over 45 years later. Of course, the movie also features one of the most iconic endings in the history of cinema, a shocking reveal that is only further enhanced by Charlton Heston's glorious overacting. Heston always brought a level of credibility and gravitas to his roles, something he also brings to his portrayal of stranded astronaut George Taylor. Treating the material with the utmost seriousness despite spending most of it parading around in a loincloth, the most iconic moment of the actors performance comes with the shocking third-act reveal. Sinking to his knees as the realisation hits him that it had in fact been Earth all along (spoiler!), Heston gives it his all as he bellows the classic lines; 'You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! God damn you all to hell!'
