10 British Comedians You Forgot Were In Hollywood Blockbusters

2. Rowan Atkinson - The Lion King

Walt Disney PicturesWalt Disney PicturesAnother voice only credit, but one which was performed by one of Britain's best loved comedians. Starting out with the satirical Not The Nine O'Clock News, Rowan Atkinson not only went on to create and breathe life into several Edmund Blackadders, but as Mr. Bean he was chosen to be a flag bearer of British comedy at the Opening Ceremony to the London 2012 Olympics. With credentials like this it is hard to say whether his role of Zazu the hornbill stands out, or indeed just fits in. Twenty years after it's initial release The Lion King is still the third highest grossing animated film of all time, and the only traditional animation feature to come anywhere near $1 Billion at the box-office. And this is to say nothing of the IMAX and 3D re-releases. Other voices were provided by the likes of Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, and James Earl Jones, and of all the Walt Disney Classic films, The Lion King is undoubtedly Disney's biggest success by a very large margin. It is hard to say just how pleased Disney were with Atkinson's work, but he obviously made an impression. Just two years later, the most famous and celebrated studio in Hollywood would end up recruiting not one but three British TV comedians for perhaps it's most ambitious project yet.
