10 Brutal Movie Torture Scenes That Made Our Toes Curl

8. Unorthodox Dentistry €“ Oldboy

Oldboy is one of the only South Korean films to find success in the western market €“ though typically some idiot felt the need to remake it in English, because apparently you can€™t expect people to read stuff and watch the film at the same time. Oldboy is a mystery thriller directed by Park Chan-wook that is loosely adapted from Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya€™s Japanese manga of the same name. The narrative follows Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), a man who is locked in a hotel room for 15 years, before being released without explanation. Oh Dae-su immediately seeks the reason for his captivity, a quest that€™s fuelled by predominantly by his lust for revenge. Oh Dae-su tracks down the warden of the private prison with the hope of finding out who paid for his incarceration. However, the warden is not eager to give out such information, so Oh Dae-su restrains the warden and begins pulling his teeth out individually € with a hammer. The tight camera angles add a claustrophobic tone to the whole scene, and the incredible close-ups ensure that the audience sees every twist and tilt of the hammer. Needless to say, those who are squeamish in the dentist€™s chair will find this to be a particularly testing experience.
