10 Brutal Movies With The Biggest Body Counts

John Woo's masterful action film Hard Boiled practically defines the "heroic bloodshed" subgenre, touting a more sustained flurry of death than even the vast majority of war movies.

The storytelling is really just an excuse to give Inspector Tequila (Chow Yun-fat) and the other movie's characters license to execute literally hundreds of people with as much badass, balletic aplomb as possible.

The result is a gloriously singular bloodbath prolonged enough to make even John Wick blush, and because the sheer conveyor-belt of carnage wasn't enough, Woo even had the gall to shoot a huge chunk of the hospital-set climax in a single take.

Ultimately the deaths are spread around pretty generously, such that Tequila himself ends up killing "only" around 80 of the 300+ victims. But like no other film on this list, there's a hypnotic quality to the deeply stylised action on offer.
