10 Cancelled Comic Book Movies That Sound Insanely Good

6. Batman: Unchained

For a good while, Batman fans were led to believe that Joel Schumacher's third Batman project was to be called Batman Triumphant, but that was apparently made up entirely. The real title was Batman Unchained and the film was actually greenlit during the production of Batman & Robin when the studio executives saw the dailies and were delighted. Yep. Literally happened.

Schumacher expressed his intent to make darker Batman films after Batman & Robin and from what we know of Unchained, it looked like he would have delivered. Yes, the idea of casting Nic Cage as Scarecrow was a little strange, but he's proved since then that he is more than capable of the kind of performance that might just have made him brilliant.

George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone would have returned, Harley Quinn would have played a key role (and would have been The Joker's daughter) and the Scarecrow would have haunted Batman with visions of his old enemies, including Jack Nicholson's Joker. Even if it had been camp and dumb, it would have been a kitsch delight.
