10 Cancelled Star Wars Projects That Were Devastating
1. Star Wars: Underworld
Announced in 2005, Star Wars: Underworld was a TV series which would have taken place between Episode III and Episode IV, and was set in the crime-infested lower levels of Coruscant.
The show was masterminded George Lucas, and was led by a huge creative team, including Doctor Who writer, Chris Chibnall and Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore. The series would have moved away from the Skywalker Saga, and would have focused on smaller stories, which would have told a larger narrative. With the likes of Daniel Logan rumoured to be dawning the Boba Fett armour for the series, the anticipation for Star Wars: Underworld continued to grow amongst the fandom.
Unfortunately, Underworld was put on the 'back-burner' over budgeting issues regarding the show's special effects. In an interview with IGN in 2010, George Lucas said that: "We can't figure out a way of doing it for less than $50 million an episode, and obviously we can't afford to do that." Lucas was also asked whether Underworld would eventually get released, to which he replied: "Yeah, I think it [special effects] will advance like everything else advances. We're working on more inexpensive ways of doing all the special effects."
Sadly, this would not be the case. Once Lucas sold the franchise in 2012, Underworld was permanently shelved, with there being no signs of restarting the project.
