10 Cancelled Star Wars Projects That Were Devastating
5. Star Wars: Battlefront 3
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 had been in production since 2006 at Free Radical, and would have seen considerable upgrades over its predecessors, including upgraded graphics, refined gunplay, and seamless ground-to-space battles.
Regrettably, the game was cancelled in 2008, due to ballooning costs and a management shakeup at LucasArts. In an interview with Eurogamer, Free Free Radical's Studio Development Director, Steve Ellis, recounted that: "For a long time we talked of LucasArts as the best relationship we'd ever had with a publisher. Then in 2008 that disappeared, they were all either fired or left. Then there was a new guy called Darrell Rodriguez, who had been brought in to do a job and it was more to do with cost control than making any games. And the games that we were making for them were costly."
Fans of the series were excited to see footage of the game appear online, which indicated that the campaign would focus on a pair of unique Clone Troopers, named X1 and X2, during the waning days of the Clone Wars. Several more leaks found their way onto the internet as the years went by, most of which showcased the game in its alpha build. As the leaks for the game continued to pile up, fans became more upset that they would never get to play what looked to be the best Star Wars shooter.
