10 Cancelled Star Wars Projects That Were Devastating

After the success of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (KOTOR 2), it seemed obvious that a third entry would be immediately green-lit, and put into production.

Unfortunately, the game never became anything other than an idea. Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind KOTOR 2, pitched their vision for a third game to LucasArts, which would have followed Revan tracking down the Sith Lord who was behind the events of the first two games. But, with Jim Ward becoming LucasArts' president in 2004, Obsidian's ideas were rejected. Ward, deciding that LucasArts was outsourcing too many games to different studios, wanted them to shift more focus onto internal projects, and so KOTOR 3 was cancelled.

Whilst this meant the end of KOTOR, the story those games told were expanded upon in the MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, which became hugely popular amongst fans, and produced fan-favourite characters, like Darth Malgus and Satele Shan. Even so, The Old Republic, which was produced by BioWare, the studio behind the first KOTOR game, did not scratch the same itch that a KOTOR 3 likely would have. With a remake of the 2003 classic on the horizon, it is possible that the KOTOR trilogy will be completed in the future, though that is probably just wishful thinking.
