6. Remo Williams: The Adventure Continues
In 1984, Dick Clark Productions introduced a cop (Fred Ward) whose death is faked so that he can work under cover for an organization called CURE as an assassin. Theres really no more to be said, as the film was both a critical and commercial flop. The first mistake the filmmakers made was a title that assumed too much: Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. It assumed the film would be a hit, it assumed the film would capture the imagination of audiences to such an extent that they would be clamoring for a sequel. No one clamored. The remaining mistakes include a lame script, a lackluster cast and surprisingly inept direction by Guy Hamilton, whose string of previous hits included four James Bond pictures. Why, then, would we want to see a sequel to one of the 80s most forgettable films? Perhaps to remind us that sequels are often not a good idea. Perhaps for the same reason we slow our automobiles in order to gawk at a car wreck. Perhaps because we here at WhatCulture are gluttons for abuse. Then again, perhaps not.
