10 Canned Sequels We Still Wish Would Be Made

5. Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is one of those 80s films that may not have attracted a large audience at the time, but those who saw it embraced it and it quickly became a cult classic.

The plot synopsis from the Internet Movie Database sums it up better than we could: €œAdventurer/surgeon/rock musician Buckaroo Banzai and his band of men, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, take on evil alien invaders from the 8th dimension.€ The movie stars Peter Weller, Christopher Lloyd, Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum and John Lithgow. When it was released the film was something of an anomaly. It was original, offbeat, and not at all the type of adventure comedy Hollywood was churning out in those days, and in many ways it was ahead of its time. Not until the widespread acceptance of independent cinema did quirky, unusual movies that went against the grain of mainstream motion pictures find a widespread audience. The end credits of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension teased a sequel, Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League, but nothing ever came of it. But given the original material's warped sensibilities, now might be the time to revisit the good doctor and his Hong Kong Cavaliers.
