10 Casting Choices That Will Make Or Break Upcoming Movies

While there's little doubt that Cynthia Erivo is going to crush the role of future Wicked Witch Elphaba in Warner Bros.' big-screen adaptation of hit musical Wicked, there's a lot more concern about Ariana Grande being cast as Galinda.

Grande's musical chops are of course not in doubt, though the part also requires someone capable of dramatic acting - an area the pop icon is largely untested in, with just a few small parts to her name.

And beyond that, there's the perception that Grande has been cast less for her suitedness to the role than how famous she is, and so it might be tough to look past her star profile and actually see the Galinda of the original musical.

Then again, there's always the possibility of being surprised, but either way, it's Grande's performance upon which the film's overall quality - and that of its upcoming sequel, too - ultimately rests.
