10 Casting Decisions Fanboys Rallied Against (And Were Right About)

1. Seth Rogen - Britt Reid - The Green Hornet

green hornet I don't know how this happened, and neither does Seth Rogen, apparently, who recently opened up and called the making of The Green Hornet "a nightmare." Watching this film isn't quite as nightmarish as making it apparently was, but it's not far off. It just doesn't work, and that's partly thanks to Seth Rogen's conflicted performance. I can see how somebody though that Rogen could have put an amusing 21st century spin on the character of Britt Reid, but then again... no: this movie should have been the sum of a funny conversation that a Seth Rogen character has with James Franco in a Judd Apatow movie, and nothing else. Unfortunately, we got an entire feature. Britt Reid (who was played by Van Williams in the original show, which co-starred Bruce Lee) is supposed to be a playboy type, which - no matter how hard he tried to make it seem plausible - just felt unconvincing with Seth Rogen in the role, even if he did try to make his version seem a little more douchey to compensate. The movie was all over the place in terms of tone, though, which make sense given that Rogen can't seem to keep his character on any consistent kind of level. I admire that the filmmakers at least tried to do something different with this, but fans of the show were right to be dubious about this casting decision. It didn't work. Like this article?
