10 Casting Decisions Fanboys Rallied Against (And Were Right About)

5. Nicolas Cage - Johnny Blaze - Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider Nic Cage Nicolas Cage has reached that point in his career where it's impossible for him to be anyone else but "Nicolas Cage." You know, like Samuel L. Jackson. Some people love that, some people see it as a waste of a talented actor, but it's happened: Nic Cage is Nic Cage in everything now, full-stop. There's no going back. Which is why the fanboys went kind of nuts when they heard that Cage had been cast as Johnny Blaze in the big screen adaptation of Marvel superhero Ghost Rider. Aside from not looking like Johnny Blaze at all, he was also, like, twenty years too old. Oh well. The movie sucked, of course, no thanks to Cage's insane and often bewilderingly hammy performance - fun to watch if you like that sort of thing (and I love watching Nic Cage's bewilderedly hammy performances), but ultimately horrific if you actually wanted to see an actor taking Ghost Rider seriously. The fact that fans rallied against Cage's casting because of his looks and age might have been forgivable had he turned in a respectable performance, but Ghost Rider just marks another "paycheck" movie in the one true God's ever expanding filmography of bizarre curiosities.
