10 Casting Decisions Fanboys Rallied Against (And Were Right About)

3. Taylor Kitsch - Gambit - X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Gambit X Men Origins Granted, Taylor Kitsch only got, like, five minutes of screentime in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (bad movie: please avoid), so it seems a little petty to write him off completely. But let's do it anyway, because that's more fun. When it was revealed that everyone's other favourite X-Men character, Cajun card-thrower Gambit, would be making an appearance in Wolverine's prequel movie, there was much support for Josh Holloway - who played Sawyer on TV's Lost - to take the role. And that could've been pretty good, actually. Everyone likes Josh Holloway, right? Sawyer! Alas, the role ended up going to Taylor Kitsch, one of those unlucky actors who seems incapable of getting a franchise going (he co-exists with Ryan Reynolds in that regard). The thing with Kitsch is that he's just kind of boring and one-note, which is sort of what we got with his brief interpretation of Gambit. When Holloway was passed over for the role, anyway, fanboys spent most of their time saying how wrong Kitsch was for the role, and they were right. The actor didn't even attempt a Cajun accent. And whilst there were glimpses of the right charisma here and there, there was nothing to get excited about. You might not have even guessed he was playing Gambit, to be honest.
