10 Changes The Oscars Desperately Needs To Make
1. Have A Pre-Established Acceptance Speech Time For All Categories So No One Gets Cut Off/Runs Long
Sometimes when multiple people win Oscars – like producing teams or co-writers – the first one to the microphone can hog the spotlight, leaving their co-winners with a few seconds to yell “I love you mum” at the camera as the music plays them off. One of the directors of Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse said he was about to thank Stan Lee before their time was cut short.
The solution? Ensure every single person in every category knows exactly how much time they’re going to have before they’re cut off. There will no doubt be issues that arise surrounding certain categories getting different amounts of time depending on “importance”, as well as set times not accounting for the amount of winners on stage at any one time. But at least if people are aware beforehand, they can plan their speeches a little better to make sure no one gets cut off unceremoniously.
Remember that time the lights went out on a guy paying tribute to someone who died of cancer? Yeah, no more repeats of that would be great.
