10 Characters For Marvel Studios To Explore The Supernatural
6. Man-Thing
Forget about the really crappy, direct-to-video movie from several years ago. Stop giggling about "Giant-Size Man-Thing." This is serious stuff here.
Man-Thing is one of Marvel's greatest supernatural character. Very similar to Swamp Thing (the creators of both characters were roommates at the time but they both attribute the similarities to coincidence), the Man-Thing was a scientist named Ted Sallis. He was recruited by SHIELD for Project Gladiator, intended to recreate the Super Soldier Serum that gave birth to Captain America.
AIM wanted the serum for themselves and ambushed Sallis, but he injected himself with the only sample and attempted to escape, crashing into the swamp. There, Sallis was transformed into the mute Man-Thing, which seemed to extinguish his mind.
Man-Thing eventually meets up with sorceress Jennifer Kale and discovers the swamp he makes his own is mystic and contains the Nexus of All Realities. He's made the guardian of the Nexus and frequently has interactions with other characters, including Howard the Duck.
There's already been a reference to Man-Thing in the MCU. In the first season of Agents of SHIELD, Maria Hill complains about some of the questions politicians have asked her about SHIELD's activities, including, "What's a Man-Thing?"
Man-Thing's adventures brought him into contact with demons, ghosts, and even land developers. A TV series featuring him could almost be like a supernatural anthology series with all the possibilities.
