10 Characters Marvel Studios Can't Currently Use (And Why It Sucks)
8. The Phalanx
The Phalanx are most commonly associated with the X-Men, having started life in an X-Men comic and repeatedly appeared as foes of the mutant group. That said, there is one particular comic book arc that makes it a real shame they won't be able to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That comic book arc is Annihilation: Conquest. Annihilation: Conquest could potentially have served as a great Guardians of the Galaxy sequel somewhere down the line (assuming the first one is successful enough to warrant a sequel), as the arc features characters like Star-Lord, Gamora, Mantis and Rocket Raccoon (all of whom are going to be present in Guardians of the Galaxy) fighting against the Phalanx. Midway through the story, the Phalanx Technarchy's primary director is revealed to be Avengers villain Ultron, who is leading them in their quest to assimilate the universe. Having Ultron be defeated by the Avengers in the Age of Ultron movie, only to later be revealed to have headed off in to space, found himself a powerful new army and set his sights on the universe would be an awesome prospect and having the Guardians of the Galaxy step up to fight the new threat would be great.
