10 Characters Marvel Studios Can't Currently Use (And Why It Sucks)

7. Skrulls

The Skrulls were rumoured for a long time to be the alien army that Loki was leading in the build up to the first Avengers movie, but that proved not to be the case when it was established that, as a species most strongly associated with the Fantastic Four, the rights to them were with Fox. That was something of a disappointment, because having the Skrulls enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe would lead to an ongoing sense of uncertainty that would keep audiences on the edge of their seat from that point onwards. The Skrulls are shape-shifters, you see, so they can mimic the appearance - and even the powers - of pretty much any character they encounter. With that in mind, you would never be sure if the Thor or Captain America you were looking at was the real version or a Skrull undercover after the real version had been killed or kidnapped. Also, given that Lady Sif recently mentioned the Kree in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., having the Kree and the Skrulls in the same universe could potentially lead to a live action version of a great comic book storyline - the Kree-Skrull war, in which the Krees intend to devolve Earth to a prehistoric time in order to use it as a base in the war against the Skrulls. Of course, Earth's heroes have to stand up and fight against both species to prevent this from happening. Needless to say, the results are awesome and it's a real shame that we currently have no chance of seeing that happen in a movie.
