10 Characters Who Should Appear In Spider-Man: Homecoming

3. J. Jonah Jameson

Spider-Man Characters
Marvel Comics

Considering Marvel’s proclivity to make light-hearted movies full of jokes, it would be hard to imagine Homecoming not including the famously hilarious rantings of J. Jonah Jameson. The newspaper mogul was sorely missed in The Amazing Spider-Man films but seems like a perfect fit to be re-introduced for the MCU.

Whether it's as head of the Daily Bugle who wants some new pictures or the mayor of New York trying to outlaw Spider-Man, Jameson is an essential element to Spider-Man’s story.

On one hand, he represents the public hatred of Spider-Man and embodies everything that the hero stands against. On the other hand, Jameson is also Peter Parker’s means of supporting himself. He's Peter's employer and an essential figure in his quest to take care of himself and Aunt May.

This duality to the character gives layers to his inclusion beyond simple humour. As such, as far as casting goes, surely Marvel wouldn’t have to look much further than a comedic, albeit serious, performer like Bob Odenkirk or Hugh Laurie to find the right guy.
