10 Characters Who Were Massively Improved In Sequels

7. Deckard - Blade Runner 49

Terminator Sequel
Warner Bros.

Another seminal movie classic that managed to survive suffering the sequel treatment, Deckard from Blade Runner is one of the characters that seemed to benefit from being brought back to life 30 years after the original movie was released - given a new lease of life that built deftly upon his character work seeded in the 1980s.

The man that was in love with a replicant continues his plight to protect those closest to him, this time searching for his daughter who he reunites with at the end of the movie in a parallel to his relationship with Rachael.

Deckard is given a deeper sense of humanity, exploring the emotions that were so contested and hotly debated for years in the wake of the first film. The argument that he's always been a replicant feels especially focussed upon in the film's deep dive into his character, further expanding, deepening, and reflecting on him in a way that's especially interesting - it might be more of the same from those 30 odd years ago, but the extra exploration is more than welcomed here.
