8. The Remorseful Bad Guy
Whether he used to be a criminal, or somehow contributed to the horrific situation the unfortunate characters find themselves entwined in before changing his mind and turning good, anyone who sees the light and abandons their formerly evil or criminal ways will definitely bite the big one. Thankfully for him or her, they already know that they are set to die as soon as they make their big decision to turn good - the second they embrace their penance they skip the pleasure of redemption and go straight to martyrdom, throwing themselves on the grenade to save others. They will usually steal some of the hero limelight in the process, but that will probably come as only a slight sweetener to the deal thanks to the pick-axe in their head. Tip: don't do anything remotely criminal in the first act, and you won't die. You CAN have a dark past, and smoldering good looks, as long as you use them to become the love interest for the lead girl who will definitely survive, but that's only a small exception to the rule.
