10 Characters Who Will Probably Die In 2020's Biggest Movies

8. Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) - Birds Of Prey

The Gentlemen
Warner Bros.

Following the same pattern we mentioned when discussing Druig (the villains in comic-book movie origin stories always seem to die) Ewan McGregor's Black Mask is another character who probably doesn't have long to live.

It's not just Marvel movies that follow this trend: DC origin stories also do the same. Parallax, Zod, Ra's Al Ghul, Ares, Enchantress and Doomsday were all killed off in their debut appearances, so again, purely from a numbers standpoint, a death for Black Mask would fit with the norm.

The tone of Birds of Prey is also an important factor. Based on all the marketing material we've seen so far, it's shaping up to be an irreverent, weird, and funny movie, one that doesn't play by the rules (Harley Quinn's entire shtick is that she's a rebel) and may therefore have a ton of surprising twists up its sleeve.

To that end, we can totally picture a scene where Black Mask is giving some sort of bad guy speech: the music swells, the camera pushes in on his face... and someone shoots him in the head out of nowhere, blasting his brains all over the floor.

A scene like this would fall in line with the movie's oddball sense of humour, and besides, McGregor will be too busy churning out seasons of his Obi-Wan TV show to film any Birds of Prey sequels in the near future.
