10 Christian Perspectives On 2015's Movies

3. Terminator Genisys - "Kyle Reese Represents The Holy Ghost!"

Secular filmgoers may not have realized, but Terminator Genisys was built around the “blasphemous Christological theme” of a messenger who comes to tell a woman that she’ll bear the saviour of mankind.

You see, Kyle Reese represents Gabriel from Luke 1:26 (“And in the 6th month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth”), who not only informs the saviour’s mother of her destiny, but also tells her the name of her unborn son. As in Revelations 12:4 (“the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born”), there’s a killer on her trail.

John Connor is referred to as a “prophet”, no doubt with Peter 1:19 in mind (“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place”). He also discusses liberty at some length, perhaps inspired by Galatians 5:1, which advises us to “stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
