9. Home Alone 3 (1997)
This film is not particularly scary, or offensive to children. Unless of course you have seen the first two Home Alone films, in which case this movie would offend you as much as any monsterous murder scene. The original film and its sequel made a child star out of Macaulay Culkin, and entertained audiences due to the quirky nature of the child's defence of his house from the bungling burglars. Nevertheless, the good impression that those two films left on me in my early years were almost entirely wiped away by the third installment. The difficult third in a film series should not even exist, as Culkin had left to find superstardom (cough). The role of the devilishly clever kid was handed to Alex D. Linz, who is most well-known as the voice of young Tarzan in the Disney animated film, and he tried admirably but could not recreate a performance befitting the festive slippers of Kevin McAllister. As a result, Home Alone 3 was panned by critics as a pale imitation of the successful past, and none of the burglars were able to provide the same humour and chemistry as Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. But, it did provide a bit-part role for a young Scarlett Johansson, but unfortunately she didn't have the same impact on the screen as she does nowadays. This Christmas, stick with the first two Home Alone movies, and try to pretend the third never existed. http://youtu.be/DnWRx3B3kdc
