7. Quasimodo The Fool - The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Having been told his whole life by his guardian Frollo that he is a monster who will be rejected by the outside world, Quasimodo decides after 20 years of captivity, to to venture out of his cathedral and to attend the Feast of Fools. Everything is fantastic at first - he is accepted, even celebrated by the townspeople, but when Frollo and his men find out that Quasimodo has left the cathedral they cause an uproar, leading the gathering crowds to side with them, mocking and abusing Quasimodo. As he is tied up and left for humiliation, the beautiful Esmerelda rescues him - but at this point we are halfway through our pack of pocket sized Kleenex and reaching for another. The way that Disney so accurately portray the discrimination and bullying that's present in the world, and the way that we truly feel empathy for Quasimodo's solitude and self consciousness mean that this hits harder due to the moral issues raised.
