10 Classic Film Characters Who Didn't Have As Much Screen-Time As You Thought
4. Beetlejuice - Beetlejuice
In the early days, former Tron animator Tim Burton was looking for a new direction after directing his movie, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (yes, he really animated Tron). He certainly found it in the movie Beetlejuice though, which was to herald many of the themes and ideas he'd become famous for over the coming decades. But whilst these days, we associate Tim Burton movies with Johnny Depp playing a wacky, gothic and insanely watchable protagonist, Beetlejuice instead employed Michael Keaton in the title role. It was a mercurial performance, but one that only lasted for 17 minutes; it takes an hour and a quarter for Keaton to even make an appearance in the movie. It's an amazing statistic, and a performance that shows Keaton's electric presence on-screen; Burton would go on to have a fantastically successful career, and you can track a lot of it down to less than 20 minutes of genius.
