10 Classic Film Characters Who Didn't Have As Much Screen-Time As You Thought

3. Elizabeth I - Shakespeare In Love

We all know Judi Dench for playing M in the Bond films; it's probably the role that she'll be most known for, for the rest of her career. But the image of her as Elizabeth I is just as iconic; Shakespeare In Love won seven Oscars, with a 26-year-old Gwyneth Paltrow picking up one, and Dench herself receiving the Best Supporting Actress gong. It's a performance that's gone onto inspire nearly every portrayal of the monarch since, but it only lasted a measly eight minutes of the near two-hour duration. Dench's performance was only 6% of the film. It was however three minutes longer than the Oscar record, which is held by Beatrice Straight, for her five-minute wonder in Network. Dench's performance is arguably more iconic though.
