10 Classic Films That Should Be Remade
1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
It is safe to say that since the release of this film - and the original book it is based on - our understanding and management of psychiatric disorders and mental illness has improved drastically. While there is still a lot to be done, the strides that the medical profession has made reflect slightly negatively on this movie, as although brilliant it does have a primitive approach to discussing mental health.
The film still holds up as one of the greatest ever made simply because the characters are fantastic, the acting is sublime, the plot is well built, and Nurse Ratched is one of cinema's biggest villains. But a new approach to the classic tale could make a lot of effort to improve the presentation of the inhabitants of the ward.
The magic of this film is somewhat based in the dated vibe that it delivers, but to attempt to recreate it could reflect some hindsight on the treatment of the mentally ill. Plus the recent Netflix show Ratched displays how this product is still on everyone's mind.
It could potentially generate some worthwhile discussion, whilst still making an experience that audiences enjoy.
