10 Classic Films That Should Be Remade
2. Stand By Me
There is a lot to be said about the Stephen King short story that went on to become a well-beloved classic film. Its exploration of youth and innocence juxtaposed with the dark premise of the title delivers upon a beautiful coming of age tale about a group of friends and the journey they go on together.
The story follows four young boys who hear about a dead body found in the woods. They venture together to catch a glimpse of this sight and go through hell and high-water to get there.
It deserves to be remade in a contemporary setting as many pervasive issues could be brought about. Firstly the effect that modern technology has on word of mouth is much larger compared to this original setting, and thus the discovery of the dead body could hold some significant comment to be made about desensitised social media posts.
Additionally, the four young boys discuss and explore many aspects of masculinity and the effect that has on them. From a modern perspective, there is a lot that can be said about the impact that such behaviour can inflict in regards to a young persons mental health no matter their gender.
