10 Classic Films That Should Be Remade
5. Apt Pupil
Apt Pupil is not remembered particularly well and thus calling it a classic may be a bit of a stretch. However, it is an incredibly powerful movie that sticks with you thanks to its horrifically dark concept and deserves to be explored again.
The story tells of Todd Bowen, a young man who discovers his elderly neighbour is a Nazi war criminal. Bowen is not a favourable protagonist as he has an unhealthy obsession with death, and thus blackmails the man into telling stories of his past. This relationship develops as both become deeper involved with the darkness of their past, present and future.
The film deserves to be recreated for a few reasons, the most notable being that the story is so dark and emotional and the first outing did not reach the potential that it could have. The original Stephen King short explores a lot more about the horrific effects that this relationship has on both our leading characters, and has plenty to say about people's attraction to darkness.
